Midi Dress for Sun Protection

Posted on

Even if it doesn’t offer full coverage like a maxi dress, there are ways on how to wear a midi dress for sun protection. I wore one during our recent getaway in California, and needless to say, this lovely midi dress from Ulla Johnson was the ultimate road trip get-up for someone who has sun-sensible standards—like me!

Fabric and Fit

This Ulla Johnson “Clementine” midi dress has a simple, flattering silhouette. It features a split neck, drawstring waist, and a tiered skirt. And if you look past the floral-print cotton, you’ll see more boho-chic details, such as the handmade tassels. The material is also lightweight, so I can really feel the air penetrate the dress’s fabric and flow around my skin!

Styling

Where the sun-sensible fashion comes along is in the styling.  I accessorized this dress with a cowboy hat to give it a bit of an attitude. The wide brim also proved to be much-needed to shade my face and neck! For shoes, I pulled on these Isabel Marant Etoile Crisi ankle boots in a camel color. This way, I give myself extra coverage and offset the dress’s glamorous, bohemian allure by toughening it up with boots.

Comfort

There’s a carefree elegance to this midi dress that makes it so perfect for the 17-mile drive in California. Located just outside the seaside towns of Monterey and Carmel, this winding road will transform your summer drive into a dream. It’s absolutely scenic, with the Pacific Ocean waves rolling towards the rocky, white shores and back. The sun occasionally peeked through the clouds in the sky overhead, so for extra sun protection, I put on an extra layer of sunblock for my skin.
