Military Field Jacket

Posted on

I love the military trend this season!  The military jacket gives off that effortless tough vibe and protects you from the season’s cold front and the skin-damaging UV rays at the same time.  But I get how intimidating wearing a military field jacket can be: it’s bulky, it’s rugged, and it has a utilitarian look that seems challenging to incorporate into our wardrobe, especially when we’re used to dressier, streamlined coats and jackets for fall. But hear me out: military-inspired outerwear can look incredibly stylish if you know how to work your outfit around it.

Choose Statement Piece

To start with, you need not wear a full-on military-inspired outfit. The key to the military trend is to choose just one statement piece to style up. High-end designers and fast-fashion labels like Zara churn out military-inspired pieces nearly each season. I love the endless options, but the military jacket has an extra special place in my wardrobe.  Here, I wore a Ralph Lauren Military Field Jacket. When styling a military jacket such as this one, it’s best to streamline with sophisticated separates.

Pair with Simple Pants and Heels

Because this one already had a rugged structure, I paired it with Double-side Band Pants from Zara. The flair of the hems lent fluidity and body to my silhouette. The double bands also helped draw the eyes down the body, but didn’t take much away from the field jacket. Finally, to add polish and height, I donned a pair of classy heels.

Overall, the ensemble exuded a tough-chic look with an 80’s flair.  The best thing is that it isn’t built just for killer street style: it’s also incredibly comfortable and functional. It’s shaped up for running errands around town, which is what I did. It also offers great protection against harsh UV rays. The medium weight of the cotton fabric makes it a great outerwear option for that unpredictable, in-between weather in fall.

And while right not they are very trendy, military jackets never early go out of style.
