Fall is upon us which means Halloween – and chillier weather than can wreak havoc on our skin. The answer to our fall skin woes? Pumpkins!

Pumpkins are Rich in Vitamins

Widely associated with Halloween, pumpkins actually offer amazing health benefits for our skin. This orange fruit is rich in anti-oxidant vitamins – including vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, and vitamin E – which help in maintaining beautiful and healthy skin. Some studies also suggest that vitamin A rich foods – such as pumpkins – may help the body fight off certain types of cancers, including oral cavity and lung cancer.

Here are four reasons why you should consider adding pumpkin to your skin care routine:

  • Rich in vitamin C: pumpkin is rich in vitamin C, which is known to help protect skin from wrinkles and can even help provide protection against skin cancer.
  • Contains alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, and other carotenoids: responsible for giving pumpkins their orange color, consuming foods rich in these antioxidants can help reverse UV damage and improve the texture of our skin.
  • Rich in minerals: pumpkins are rich in minerals such as potassium magnesium, zinc, and iron. These minerals are known to help fight acne, maintain collagen production, and promote overall healthy skin and hair.
  • Good source of Vitamin B: foods rich in Vitamin B are known to help treat acne and promote cell regrowth and renewal.

Pumpkins and Skin

Adding pumpkin to your diet is a great way to promote healthy skin from the inside out. After you have carved out your jack-o-lantern this Halloween, consider roasting the seeds for a tasty snack or using the flesh to make some delicious pumpkin juice.

Because of its qualities that promote healthy skin, pumpkin is used as an ingredient in many commercial face masks. When browsing the skin care aisle, you can check the list of ingredients on the label to determine which products contain pumpkin.

You can also make your own pumpkin mask at home using this simple recipe, which can be made using canned or fresh pumpkin:

Ingredients:

¼ cup pumpkin

1 egg

2 teaspoons honey

Directions:

Combine ingredients and mix until smooth. Apply mixture to face and let sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and enjoy your brighter, smoother complexion
