Sun-Safe, Street Outfit for Fall

Posted on

Autumn sun exposure

When the crisp, chilly breeze of autumn blankets the city, we tend to think that we’re sun-safe. Granted, we pull coats over our outfits to keep us warm, but we also spend a lot of time in outdoor activities during hours when UV rays are harshest.

Here’s the thing: risks caused by exposure to sun don’t stop during fall. Even if the sun is weaker, rays that can cause cancer are still there. While we need to soak up some sunshine to collect Vitamin D—especially before the dry, cold days of winter set in!—we have to be aware of the level of our tendency to burn. Too much sun exposure even during the cooler months can lead to free radical damage, accelerated premature aging, hyperpigmentation and even more serious conditions like skin cancer.

The best part about fall, though, is that the cold weather makes us dress for maximum coverage. More often than not, we’re comfortably decked out in layers of clothing!

Dress up for a stroll in the streets

I’m personally ecstatic about fall. Everyone knows this is my favorite season. I love the gorgeous, golden foliage that dresses up the city. I’m equally thrilled when I dress up for a stroll in the streets. Here, I deviated from the trustworthy coat and played it up with street style trends instead. I wore a Zara Poplin shirt, and further kept the embroidered elements by slipping Gucci embroidered loafers. For some edge, I wore a distressed pair of jeans from 7 For All Mankind, and a stunning pair of Gucci glitter brown-pink sunglasses. As always I wore sunscreen that had an SPF of at least 30 and provided protection against UVA and UVB radiation.

A sleeveless fur vest was the best outerwear of choice: I wanted to show off the details of my outfit, so a full fur coat would be overwhelming. I love how the texture and rich, burgundy color lent my get-up a lux, playful finish!
