Sun-Safe, Street Outfit for Fall

Autumn sun exposure

When the crisp, chilly breeze of autumn blankets the city, we tend to think that we’re sun-safe. Granted, we pull coats over our outfits to keep us warm, but we also spend a lot of time in outdoor activities during hours when UV rays are harshest.

Here’s the thing: risks caused by exposure to sun don’t stop during fall. Even if the sun is weaker, rays that can cause cancer are still there. While we need to soak up some sunshine to collect Vitamin D—especially before the dry, cold days of winter set in!—we have to be aware of the level of our tendency to burn. Too much sun exposure even during the cooler months can lead to free radical damage, accelerated premature aging, hyperpigmentation and even more serious conditions like skin cancer.

The best part about fall, though, is that the cold weather makes us dress for maximum coverage. More often than not, we’re comfortably decked out in layers of clothing!

Dress up for a stroll in the streets

I’m personally ecstatic about fall. Everyone knows this is my favorite season. I love the gorgeous, golden foliage that dresses up the city. I’m equally thrilled when I dress up for a stroll in the streets. Here, I deviated from the trustworthy coat and played it up with street style trends instead. I wore a Zara Poplin shirt, and further kept the embroidered elements by slipping Gucci embroidered loafers. For some edge, I wore a distressed pair of jeans from 7 For All Mankind, and a stunning pair of Gucci glitter brown-pink sunglasses. As always I wore sunscreen that had an SPF of at least 30 and provided protection against UVA and UVB radiation.

A sleeveless fur vest was the best outerwear of choice: I wanted to show off the details of my outfit, so a full fur coat would be overwhelming. I love how the texture and rich, burgundy color lent my get-up a lux, playful finish!

Restorative Autumn Walks

Autumn – it is the perfect time to be outdoors

The air is crisp, the leaves are changing and the scenery is just beautiful. The season creates the perfect scenario to get outside to get some exercise with a walk.

But even though Fall is my favorite season, sometimes I feel the need to begin hibernation-mode. As the weather is getting cooler and the days shorter, my motivation to get outside decreases. Thankfully, I have my gorgeous Golden Retriever Kode.  He needs exercise and walking so it forces me take a stroll at least twice a day.  I discovered that walking through the autumn woods is not just a physical exercise. Taking a walk in the fall also gives me time to think and relax from everyday stress.  Did you know that the burst of vibrant colors is like a color therapy session?   The amazing fall landscapes are full of restorative colors: orange – helps the nervous system, yellow brings joy, red gives energy, and gold evokes the feeling of wisdom.

Walks are good for you

Walking outdoors is a highly recommended method of physical activity as it can help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, obesity, diabetes, certain forms of cancer and Alzheimer’s. It is also a great way to boost serotonin levels, and been seen as a way to help fight and prevent depression.

Walking is one of those things that is great for everyone – no matter a person’s shape, size and ability, it is suitable for just about anyone. It is also a great first step for those that are just beginning their fitness journey, as it places low strain on the body and is an easy way to burn some calories.

So don’t put your hiking boots away just yet. Get outside and take in the leaves crunching beneath your feet, the red and gold hues on the trees and perfect cool air. Remember, the cold months are just around the corner and you will be dreaming of taking a beautiful walk while you are shoveling the driveway and clearing the snow off of the car.

Early Fall Outfit Idea

I like coming up with early autumn outfit ideas for sun-protection just before the seasons shift. The transitional factor allows me to play with the best of both worlds—even though I’m always covered from head to toe! But you see, what I like in a sun-safe, early fall outfit is the combination of raw and polished elements inspired by the drawing changes in weather.

My fall get-up revolves around basics, but if you look closely, the details bring my outfit game a notch up. It centers on a classic pair of jeans with undone hems. To start with, jeans are an absolute wardrobe must-have. And not just for a sun-sensible fashion closet like mine—but for every wardrobe there is. The undone hems on my jeans take inspiration from the summer season: it has a subversive, laidback allure to it. Dressed up with peep-toe heels, it turns into an instantly chic look. It doesn’t hurt that undone hems are trending among denims lately! I wore that with a crispy, white shirt—yet another wardrobe essential!

Around my waist is a Chanel silver waist bag with a pendant emblematic of the designer brand. This has got to be one of my favorite bags of all time. My inner nerd is showing through with my accessory choices! The refined, stylish look of this waist bag, combined with the irresistible hands-free practicality, is a total win. It also has more room than you think. I’m not kidding when I say that I can fit all my essentials in this purse!

Of course, I finished my outfit with sun-safe summer essentials: a hat and sunglasses.
