They say invention is born out of necessity. True to the saying, when I could not find a sun-protective cover-up skirt for my swimsuit one day, I went ahead and sewed my own. This custom sun-protective cover-up skirt is long enough to graze the waters and very easy to slip into after dipping into the beach. You know me: if I’m going to cover myself up, the clothing has to blanket my entire body!
With full control over my choice of fabric for the custom cover-up, I used a UP50+ material that is extremely soft and breathable. I love how it turned out. You can just see how silky and lightweight the skirt is through the beautiful motions it creates against the sea breeze! I’m looking into making more of this sun-protective cover-up skirt available.
I wore this skirt with my one-piece swimsuit from Flagpole for a day at the beach with my friends. The swimsuit is made with colorblocked microfiber, raglan sleeves, and a cutout at the midriff area. Paired with my skirt, it created an ultra feminine silhouette with a modern spin.
The way the shades of blue blended together even gave the impression that I bought the entire outfit as a matching set.
Style tip:
If you’re tired of playful ginghams and summer stripes, go for colorblocking. I personally love the structure of colors. It’s super refreshing for the eyes.
I added a glamorous touch with my round Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses and a trusty straw hat. After swimming, my friends and I skipped to a nearby restaurant for lunch.
